TotalEnergies and Soltec to install 22 kW self-consumption plant at Red Cross headquarters in Murcia

  • Surplus energy will be fed into the grid, helping to reduce the charity’s electricity bill.
  • The project will avoid around 350 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere over its 30-year lifespan.
  • The collaboration agreement aims to drive environmental improvement and energy efficiency actions, as well as promote the use of renewable energy in Murcia.

TotalEnergies, a multi-energy company, and Soltec Power Holdings, through its photovoltaic project development arm Powertis, have announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Red Cross for the installation and maintenance of a 22 kW solar self-consumption plant at the regional headquarters of the humanitarian volunteer organization in the Region of Murcia. This will help reduce the charity’s electricity bill as well as its environmental footprint, as it is estimated to avoid the emission of 350 tonnes of CO2 over its lifespan.

With this plant, TotalEnergies, Powertis and the Red Cross aim to drive environmental improvement and energy efficiency actions, as well as promote the use of renewable energy in Murcia, a key piece of the energy transition.

The agreement will run for 4 years and is part of the environmental improvement actions promoted by the “Luminora Solar Dos” solar photovoltaic plant project, developed by TotalEnergies and Powertis in Murcia, with an estimated capacity of 200 MW.

“It’s an honor to collaborate with the Red Cross in the Region of Murcia, and to put our renewable energy capabilities at this institution’s disposal. Murcia has great solar potential and plays a major role in the strategy we’re developing in Spain in this field, with a 5 GW project portfolio expected to be operational by 2025,” highlighted Yago Mancebo, General Director for Europe at TotalEnergies Renewables International.

As Raúl Morales, CEO of Soltec, explained, “we work with the firm conviction that companies have a duty to make a positive impact on society and drive socioeconomic excellence in the places where we operate. That’s why this project, which we’re driving together with TotalEnergies, reflects our future commitment to the Region of Murcia and its people.”

Faustino Herrero, President of the Red Cross in the Region of Murcia, wanted to “thank Soltec and TotalEnergies for the tremendous work behind this initiative, and what it means for the social work the Red Cross carries out in the Region of Murcia.” Herrero also noted that “this solidarity initiative will allow us to save on energy costs, and invest those funds in the over 95,000 people we assist in the Region of Murcia.” The Red Cross president stressed that “we are committed to reducing as much as possible the carbon footprint generated by our facilities, vehicles and boats, and to that end we have rolled out a series of energy-saving measures, as well as support for nearly 200 families in Murcia suffering from energy poverty who are unable to keep their homes at an adequate temperature.”
