The 200 MW Luminora Solar Dos photovoltaic project, developed by TotalEnergies, a multi-energy company, and Soltec, a vertically integrated photovoltaic company, in the Region of Murcia has now obtained Administrative Construction Authorization.
The project, located in the municipality of Murcia, features 337,174 bifacial photovoltaic modules and 5,341 SF7 solar trackers supplied by Soltec, and will generate enough electricity to cover the estimated annual consumption of over 114,000 households. The plant will also avoid the emission of over 3 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year over its 30-year lifespan.
The plant, construction of which is estimated to begin in 2024 and in whose execution Soltec is participating, will create over 2,200 direct and indirect jobs during its construction phase. Total investment in the project amounts to approximately €100 million.
In designing the project, both companies have implemented various environmental protection measures as social and environmental safeguards, included within the project’s Environmental and Landscape Integration Plan. To preserve biodiversity, prior flora surveys have been carried out, and measures will be implemented such as the installation of vegetation screens, replanting of native species, and anti-collision and anti-electrocution measures to protect birdlife. Likewise, monitoring has been carried out on the use of the territory by Bonelli’s eagle and golden eagle, including GPS-GSM tagging of one of these species to track its movements and improve understanding of its evolution, in coordination with the region’s environmental authority.
Regarding local development, the plant is linked to initiatives such as the installation of self-consumption solutions at the Red Cross headquarters and in several public buildings owned by Murcia City Council, as well as measures aimed at allowing residents of nearby towns to reduce their energy bills or economically participate in the project.
Yago Mancebo, General Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Spain, noted that “our company has made a firm commitment to promoting renewable energy in the Region of Murcia. Obtaining construction authorization for this project is a major step forward that will allow us to contribute both to decarbonizing the region and to developing local economies, all while ensuring the protection of local biodiversity”.
“We are very proud to keep working to make our Region more sustainable while contributing to its economic growth. Decarbonizing the economy is a key goal, and we are especially pleased to work on projects where biodiversity and communities take center stage. We will keep working with TotalEnergies as a top-tier partner to invest decisively in projects that benefit society as a whole”, said Raúl Morales
