- Soltec will supply its SF7 tracker, known for its exceptional adaptability to challenging terrain
- Work at the plant is expected to start in the first quarter of 2022
- The installed capacity of this plant will generate enough energy for 28,000 homes a year
Soltec has signed a supply and commissioning agreement for its SF7 tracker with Greek project development and construction company Metka EGN (Mytilineos Group), for a 50 MW plant in the province of Jaén, Andalusia. The solar plant, scheduled for construction in the first quarter of 2022, will cover approximately 63 hectares and is the fourth project signed with METKA ENG in 2021, bringing the total supply agreed with them to 217 MW.
Building this photovoltaic plant will avoid the emission of 30,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The plant’s installed capacity is also equivalent to the electricity needed for 28,000 homes. Construction work on the plant will begin in the first quarter of 2022.
Raúl Morales, CEO of Soltec, expressed satisfaction, noting that “this new plant, to be developed in southern Spain, represents steady progress toward the energy transition. Spain has a privileged location for developing photovoltaic projects, and it’s our duty to keep expanding to make clean energy an increasingly widespread reality in our country.” He added that “criteria such as those set out by ‘Ecovoltaica’ ensure that all these plants are developed in the greatest possible harmony with, and respect for, the environment and local biodiversity. Our goal is to make these measures standard practice and further enhance the harmony of solar plants with their surroundings.”
Soltec’s SF7 tracker is the company’s flagship product. It has over 10 GW in projects worldwide thanks to its ease of installation and ability to adapt to any terrain. In this Jaén project specifically, the terrain is highly challenging, with steep slopes, making the SF7 tracker a perfect fit thanks to its strong suitability for highly irregular terrain, which brings major savings in civil works as well as a lower environmental impact. The SF7 tracker can be installed on slopes of up to 17% North-South, and this, combined with its low pile count per MW, allows it to lower the final installation cost and maximize return on investment per MW installed.
With this agreement, Soltec continues to strengthen its operating backlog, which keeps growing and reaching record levels for the company. According to figures at the close of the third quarter of 2021, Soltec Industrial had a backlog of €397 million and a pipeline valued at €3,052 million.
